Description

Sweet Matcha Bread is a soft and fluffy bread infused with vibrant green matcha powder, offering a delicate sweetness and a unique earthy flavor. Perfect as a snack or breakfast treat.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons matcha powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together flour, matcha powder, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients.
  4. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes by hand or 6 minutes with a mixer.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or rolls as desired.
  7. Place the shaped dough into a greased bread pan or on a baking sheet. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and hollow sounding when tapped.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • Adjust sugar amount based on sweetness preference.
  • Use high-quality matcha powder for best flavor and color.
  • Ensure milk is warm but not hot to avoid killing yeast.
  • Optional: brush the top with melted butter after baking for a shiny crust.
