Description

Strawberry Sago is a delightful Asian-inspired dessert made with chewy sago pearls, fresh strawberry puree, and creamy milk. This cooling sweet treat is perfect for summer and a refreshing twist on traditional sago desserts.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 cup sago pearls (small tapioca pearls)
  • 2 cups water (for boiling sago)
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
  • 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup whole milk or coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup condensed milk (optional for extra creaminess)
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • Ice cubes or chilled water for rinsing
  • Extra strawberries for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Cook the sago:
  • Boil water in a saucepan, add sago pearls, and cook for 10-12 minutes until they become translucent. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • Rinse and drain:
  • Once cooked, drain the sago and rinse under cold water to remove excess starch. Set aside to cool.
  • Make the strawberry puree:
  • Blend strawberries with sugar until smooth. Strain to remove seeds if preferred.
  • Combine the dessert:
  • In a mixing bowl, combine cooled sago pearls, strawberry puree, milk, condensed milk, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  • Chill and serve:
  • Refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Serve cold, garnished with fresh strawberry slices if desired.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness based on the strawberries’ ripeness.
  • Coconut milk can be used for a dairy-free version.
  • Make ahead and chill longer for a thicker, creamier texture.
