Description

This Strawberry Lemonade with Basil combines the sweetness of ripe strawberries, the tanginess of fresh lemon juice, and the aromatic touch of basil. It’s a delightful twist on classic lemonade, offering a balance of flavors that’s both invigorating and satisfying.​


Ingredients

  • For the Basil Simple Syrup:
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  • For the Strawberry Lemonade:
  • 1 lb (about 2 cups) fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (from about 6-8 lemons)
  • 46 cups cold water (adjust to taste)
  • Ice, for serving
  • Lemon slices and additional basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions

  • Prepare the Basil Simple Syrup:
  • In a saucepan, combine water and sugar.
  • Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  • Remove from heat, add basil leaves, and let steep for 15 minutes.
  • Strain the syrup into a container, discarding the basil leaves. Let it cool.​
  • Make the Strawberry Puree:
  • In a blender, combine the strawberries and 1/2 cup of the cooled basil simple syrup.
  • Blend until smooth.
  • Strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve to remove seeds, if desired.​

  • Assemble the Lemonade:
  • In a large pitcher, combine the strawberry puree, fresh lemon juice, and 4 cups of cold water.
  • Stir well and taste.
  • Add more basil simple syrup for sweetness or more water to dilute, as preferred.​

  • Fill glasses with ice.
  • Pour the strawberry basil lemonade over the ice.

Notes

  • For a sparkling version, replace some or all of the cold water with sparkling water.
  • The basil simple syrup can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of basil simple syrup added to the lemonade.​
