- For the Basil Simple Syrup:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves
- For the Strawberry Lemonade:
- 1 lb (about 2 cups) fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
- 1 cup fresh lemon juice (from about 6-8 lemons)
- 4–6 cups cold water (adjust to taste)
- Ice, for serving
- Lemon slices and additional basil leaves, for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Basil Simple Syrup:
- In a saucepan, combine water and sugar.
- Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Remove from heat, add basil leaves, and let steep for 15 minutes.
- Strain the syrup into a container, discarding the basil leaves. Let it cool.
- Make the Strawberry Puree:
- In a blender, combine the strawberries and 1/2 cup of the cooled basil simple syrup.
- Blend until smooth.
- Strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve to remove seeds, if desired.

- Assemble the Lemonade:
- In a large pitcher, combine the strawberry puree, fresh lemon juice, and 4 cups of cold water.
- Stir well and taste.
- Add more basil simple syrup for sweetness or more water to dilute, as preferred.

- Fill glasses with ice.

Notes
- For a sparkling version, replace some or all of the cold water with sparkling water.
- The basil simple syrup can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
- Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of basil simple syrup added to the lemonade.
