- 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup heavy cream (adjust for consistency)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Bake the Cake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk dry ingredients together. Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla. Mix well, then stir in hot coffee until smooth.
- Divide batter evenly between pans and bake for 30–35 minutes. Let cool completely.
- Prepare the Filling: Toss sliced strawberries with sugar and let sit for 10–15 minutes until juicy.
- Make the Frosting: Beat butter until smooth. Add cocoa powder, then powdered sugar, cream, salt, and vanilla. Beat until fluffy and smooth.
- Assemble the Cake: Spread a layer of frosting on the bottom cake layer, then add a layer of macerated strawberries. Top with the second cake layer and frost the entire cake.
- Decorate with additional strawberries, chocolate shavings, or ganache drizzle if desired.
