Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 3/4 cup heavy/whipping cream
- 1 (14 oz) can diced tomatoes, undrained
- 8 oz uncooked pasta
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 sweet yellow onion, chopped
- 1 1/2 tsp minced garlic
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1/4 tsp Italian seasoning
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Freshly grated parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the pasta:
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook until al dente, following the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Prepare the base:
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 4-5 minutes until softened.
- Cook the beef:
- Add the ground beef and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for about 8 minutes, breaking up the meat with a spoon, until browned. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Make the sauce:
- Stir in the canned diced tomatoes, tomato paste, Dijon mustard, and Italian seasoning. Let the sauce simmer for 4-5 minutes to reduce slightly.
- Add cream:
- Stir in the heavy cream and let it cook for 3-5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.
- Combine and season:
- Toss the cooked pasta with the sauce until evenly coated. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Serve:
- Top with freshly grated parmesan cheese if desired and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use your favorite pasta shape for this dish—penne, rigatoni, or spaghetti all work well.
- Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a hint of spice.
