- 1 cup chicken broth (from a 32-oz carton)
- 2 tablespoons steak sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 8 oz mushrooms, thinly sliced
- 1 cup white onion, coarsely chopped (from 1 small onion)
- 1 teaspoon Montreal steak seasoning
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 8 regular-size burger buns (toasted if desired)
- 1/2 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (2 oz)
Instructions
- Prepare the Sauce: In a medium bowl, mix chicken broth, steak sauce, and Dijon mustard. Set aside.
- Cook Ground Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the ground beef for 7–8 minutes, stirring frequently, until browned. Drain the grease and set beef aside.
- Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, melt butter and add mushrooms, onions, and steak seasoning. Cook for 7–8 minutes until onions are translucent and mushrooms are browned.
- Thicken with Flour: Sprinkle flour over the vegetable mixture. Stir and cook for 1–2 minutes until the flour browns and smells nutty.
- Combine and Simmer: Return the ground beef to the skillet. Stir in the broth mixture and bring to a simmer. Cook for 3–4 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
- Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Place about 1/3 cup of the meat mixture onto the bottom half of each bun. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of shredded Cheddar cheese, then cover with the top bun.
- Serve: Serve warm with your favorite sides like fries, salad, or coleslaw.
