Ingredients

Units Scale
  • For the dough:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • For the filling:
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: 1/2 cup grated parmesan or mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix warm milk, water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy
  • Add flour, salt, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a dough forms
  • Knead for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled
  • Meanwhile, mix the filling: combine melted butter, garlic, rosemary, and salt
  • Once risen, punch down the dough and roll into a large rectangle (~12×16 inches)
  • Brush with the rosemary garlic butter and sprinkle with cheese if using
  • Cut into squares or strips, stack, and layer vertically into a greased loaf pan
  • Cover and let rise for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C)
  • Bake for 30–35 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through
  • Cool slightly before serving. Best enjoyed warm!

Notes

  • You can use dried rosemary if fresh isn’t available, but reduce the amount
  • Add chili flakes or a touch of lemon zest for a twist
  • This bread freezes well—just reheat in the oven to revive the texture
