Keywords: pasta e piselli, pasta with peas, Italian pea pasta, easy Italian recipes.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 12 oz ditalini pasta (or small pasta like elbow macaroni)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups frozen green peas
  • 4 cups vegetable broth (or water)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus extra for serving)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the peas and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the vegetable broth and bring to a gentle boil.
  • Add the pasta directly into the broth and cook, stirring frequently, until pasta is al dente and most of the liquid is absorbed (add more water if necessary).
  • Stir in the Parmesan cheese and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley and extra Parmesan if desired.

Notes

  • For an even creamier dish, stir in a splash of heavy cream at the end.
  • Use fresh peas if they’re in season!
  • This dish is meant to be slightly brothy — adjust the consistency to your liking by adding more broth or reducing it further.
