Scale
- 1 lb ribeye or sirloin steak, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar or mirin
- 1/2 small onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tsp sesame seeds (optional)
- Ground black pepper to taste
- Optional: julienned carrots, mushrooms, or bell peppers for stir-fry
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, rice vinegar, and black pepper.
- Add thinly sliced beef and mix well to coat evenly. Stir in onion slices and green onions.
- Cover and marinate for at least 30 minutes (up to overnight in the fridge for best flavor).
- Heat a skillet or grill pan over high heat. Add beef and onions in batches, cooking until beef is browned and cooked through, about 2–3 minutes per side.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and additional green onions if desired.
- Serve hot with steamed rice, lettuce leaves, or as part of a Korean BBQ spread.
Notes
- For easier slicing, freeze beef for 20–30 minutes before cutting.
- Marinate longer for deeper flavor.
- Bulgogi is delicious served with kimchi, pickled veggies, or gochujang.
