Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Orange Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon orange zest (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Your Oven and Cake Pan

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.

Step 2: Cream Butter and Sugars

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Step 3: Add Wet Ingredients

  1. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  2. Stir in orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract.

Step 4: Combine Dry Ingredients

  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Avoid overmixing.

Step 5: Bake the Cake

  1. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
  2. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  3. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 6: Prepare the Orange Glaze

  • In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and orange juice until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more powdered sugar or juice, if needed.

Step 7: Glaze the Cake

  1. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake.
  2. Garnish with extra orange zest for a pop of color and flavor.

Notes

  • Freshly squeezed orange juice and zest offer the best flavor and aroma.
  • Do not overmix the batter to maintain a light and fluffy texture.
  • The glaze can be made thicker or thinner to suit your preference.
