Instructions
Step 1: Prepare Your Oven and Cake Pan
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
Step 2: Cream Butter and Sugars
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Step 3: Add Wet Ingredients
- Beat in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract.
Step 4: Combine Dry Ingredients
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
Step 5: Bake the Cake
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 6: Prepare the Orange Glaze
- In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and orange juice until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more powdered sugar or juice, if needed.
Step 7: Glaze the Cake
- Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake.
- Garnish with extra orange zest for a pop of color and flavor.
Notes
- Freshly squeezed orange juice and zest offer the best flavor and aroma.
- Do not overmix the batter to maintain a light and fluffy texture.
- The glaze can be made thicker or thinner to suit your preference.
