Description

Celebrate the sweet news with an “It’s a Boy” Cake – a delightful, beautifully decorated centerpiece for baby showers or gender reveal parties. With soft layers of moist vanilla cake, sky-blue buttercream, and elegant accents like fondant letters and gold details, this cake is as charming as the occasion itself.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • Buttercream frosting (see notes)
  • White fondant (for “It’s a Boy” lettering)
  • Edible gold leaf or gold dust (optional)
  • Baby-themed cake toppers (e.g., booties, rattles, teddy bears)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare three 8-inch cake pans by greasing and lining with parchment.
  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  • Cream butter and sugar until pale and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla.
  • Alternately add flour mixture and milk, beginning and ending with flour. Mix until smooth.
  • Add blue food coloring to desired shade and mix evenly.
  • Divide batter between pans and bake 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely.
  • Frost cooled layers with buttercream, smoothing sides and top.
  • Add fondant “It’s a Boy” letters and baby-themed toppers. Optional: Apply gold leaf accents for extra elegance.

Notes

  • For frosting: Use classic American or Swiss meringue buttercream. Tint with a small amount of blue gel food coloring.
  • Chill cake before applying fondant letters or gold leaf for clean application.
  • Letters can be made ahead and dried for easier placement.
