- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water (110°F)
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
- 1/3 cup honey (for glaze)
- 2 tbsp milk (for glaze)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, melted butter, salt, and egg. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
- Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Roll the dough into a rectangle about 12×18 inches. Spread softened butter over the dough and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll up the dough tightly from the long side and slice into 12 equal pieces.
- Place the buns on a greased baking sheet or in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- In a small saucepan, heat honey and milk until warm. Remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar until smooth.
- Drizzle the glaze over the warm buns before serving.
Notes
- Use a stand mixer with dough hook to save time kneading.
- For extra sweetness, drizzle additional honey over finished buns.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
