Description

Soft, sweet, and sticky honey buns that are perfect for breakfast or dessert. These buns are swirled with cinnamon and topped with a honey glaze.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1/3 cup honey (for glaze)
  • 2 tbsp milk (for glaze)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, melted butter, salt, and egg. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
  3. Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll the dough into a rectangle about 12×18 inches. Spread softened butter over the dough and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Roll up the dough tightly from the long side and slice into 12 equal pieces.
  7. Place the buns on a greased baking sheet or in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. In a small saucepan, heat honey and milk until warm. Remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar until smooth.
  10. Drizzle the glaze over the warm buns before serving.

Notes

  • Use a stand mixer with dough hook to save time kneading.
  • For extra sweetness, drizzle additional honey over finished buns.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
