Units
Scale
- 1 1/2 pounds flank or skirt steak
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup lime juice (about 2 limes)
- 2 tablespoons orange juice
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 jalapeño, minced
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Corn or flour tortillas, for serving
- Toppings: diced onions, chopped cilantro, lime wedges, salsa, avocado, etc.
Instructions
- In a large bowl or resealable bag, combine soy sauce, lime juice, orange juice, olive oil, garlic, jalapeño, cilantro, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
- Add the steak and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
- Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Remove steak from marinade and let excess drip off.
- Grill steak for 4–5 minutes per side, or until desired doneness.
- Let steak rest for 5 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.
- Warm tortillas on the grill or stovetop.
- Assemble tacos with sliced carne asada and desired toppings.
- Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side.
Notes
- Marinating overnight yields the most flavor.
- Skirt steak can be substituted for flank steak.
- Resting the steak before slicing helps retain juices.
