Description

Flavorful grilled carne asada tacos made with marinated flank steak, served on warm tortillas and topped with fresh garnishes.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds flank or skirt steak
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup lime juice (about 2 limes)
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jalapeño, minced
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Corn or flour tortillas, for serving
  • Toppings: diced onions, chopped cilantro, lime wedges, salsa, avocado, etc.

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl or resealable bag, combine soy sauce, lime juice, orange juice, olive oil, garlic, jalapeño, cilantro, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add the steak and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
  3. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Remove steak from marinade and let excess drip off.
  4. Grill steak for 4–5 minutes per side, or until desired doneness.
  5. Let steak rest for 5 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.
  6. Warm tortillas on the grill or stovetop.
  7. Assemble tacos with sliced carne asada and desired toppings.
  8. Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side.

Notes

  • Marinating overnight yields the most flavor.
  • Skirt steak can be substituted for flank steak.
  • Resting the steak before slicing helps retain juices.
