- 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp olive oil (for frying)
- 4 burger buns
- Lettuce leaves
- Sliced tomato
- Sliced cucumber
- Sliced red onion
- Hummus or tahini sauce (optional)
Instructions
- In a food processor, combine chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, coriander, salt, pepper, and cayenne. Pulse until coarse mixture forms.
- Add baking powder and flour to the mixture and pulse until combined but not pureed.
- Shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry patties for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
- Toast the burger buns lightly.
- Assemble the burgers by spreading hummus or tahini sauce on the buns, then layering with lettuce, falafel patty, tomato, cucumber, and red onion.
- Serve immediately with your favorite side.
Notes
- You can bake the falafel patties at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes, flipping halfway, for a healthier option.
- Try adding pickles or hot sauce for extra flavor.
- The patties can be made ahead and frozen for later use.
