Description

A flavorful and hearty vegetarian burger made with crispy falafel patties, served on buns with fresh vegetables and creamy sauces.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for frying)
  • 4 burger buns
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomato
  • Sliced cucumber
  • Sliced red onion
  • Hummus or tahini sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, combine chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, coriander, salt, pepper, and cayenne. Pulse until coarse mixture forms.
  2. Add baking powder and flour to the mixture and pulse until combined but not pureed.
  3. Shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry patties for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
  5. Toast the burger buns lightly.
  6. Assemble the burgers by spreading hummus or tahini sauce on the buns, then layering with lettuce, falafel patty, tomato, cucumber, and red onion.
  7. Serve immediately with your favorite side.

Notes

  • You can bake the falafel patties at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes, flipping halfway, for a healthier option.
  • Try adding pickles or hot sauce for extra flavor.
  • The patties can be made ahead and frozen for later use.
