- Gel food coloring for rainbow piping (separate small portions for different shades)
- For Decorations:
- Gold fondant or a pre-made unicorn horn
- White fondant for ears and eyes
- Edible glitter or shimmer dust
- Sprinkles, stars, and pearls (optional)
Instructions
- Bake the Cake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line four 6-inch round pans. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla. Mix dry ingredients separately, and alternate adding them with milk to the batter. Divide evenly, color each portion, and bake for 25–28 minutes. Cool completely.
- Make the Frosting: Beat butter until smooth, add sugar gradually, then vanilla and milk to desired consistency. Divide and tint pastel colors for mane piping and a portion of white for base.
- Assemble and Decorate:
- Stack rainbow layers with white frosting between. Frost outside with smooth white buttercream.
- Pipe swirls of colored frosting on top and sides for the mane using a star tip.
- Insert gold unicorn horn at the center, and position fondant ears beside it.
- Add fondant eyes or pipe with black frosting. Finish with glitter and sprinkles.
