Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Mushrooms:

  • 1 lb button mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Ranch Dip:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1 tsp dried dill
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried parsley
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice or white vinegar
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

For the Fried Mushrooms:

  1. Prep the mushrooms – Clean and slice the mushrooms if needed. Pat dry to remove excess moisture.
  2. Set up a breading station:
    • In one bowl, mix flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
    • In another bowl, beat the eggs.
    • In a third bowl, add breadcrumbs or panko.
  3. Coat the mushrooms – Dredge each mushroom slice in flour, dip in beaten eggs, then coat with breadcrumbs. Press lightly to ensure the breadcrumbs stick.
  4. Heat the oil – In a deep skillet or pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry in batches – Carefully drop a few mushrooms into the hot oil, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  6. Repeat until all mushrooms are fried.

For the Ranch Dip:

  1. Combine all dip ingredients in a bowl and whisk until smooth.
  2. Adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, and more lemon juice if desired.
  3. Chill for 10 minutes before serving for the best flavor

Notes

  • For extra crunch, double coat the mushrooms by dipping them in eggs and breadcrumbs twice.
  • Serve with hot sauce or honey mustard for variety.
  • Make it spicy by adding cayenne pepper to the flour mixture.
