Description

This Iced Butterfly Pea Flower Tea Latte is a stunning, color-changing drink made with deep blue butterfly pea flower tea layered with creamy milk. When citrus is added, the vibrant indigo hue transforms into shades of purple and pink, creating a magical and refreshing beverage that’s naturally caffeine-free and full of antioxidants.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 tbsp dried butterfly pea flowers (or 1 butterfly pea tea bag)
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1/2 cup milk of choice (almond, oat, coconut, or dairy)
  • 12 tsp honey or simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • Juice of 1/4 lemon (optional, for color change)
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional Garnishes:
  • Edible flowers
  • Mint sprigs
  • Lemon slices

Instructions

  • Brew the Tea: Steep butterfly pea flowers in hot water for 5–7 minutes until deep blue. Strain and let cool completely.
  • Sweeten the Milk: In a separate glass, mix milk with honey (or syrup) and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Layer the Latte: Fill a glass with ice. Pour the sweetened milk first, then slowly pour the cooled butterfly pea tea on top to create a layered effect.
  • Add Citrus (Optional): Squeeze in lemon juice just before serving to watch the color shift to purple-pink. Stir gently if desired.
  • Garnish & Serve: Top with edible flowers or mint for a picture-perfect finish.

Notes

  • For a richer latte, use full-fat coconut milk.
  • Add lavender syrup for a floral twist.
  • Turn it into a frappe by blending all ingredients with ice.
  • Can be served hot too—just warm the milk and skip the ice!
