Ingredients

Units Scale

For the bread:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk

For the apple mixture:

  • 2 apples, peeled and chopped (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

For the cinnamon-sugar swirl:

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

For the glaze:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  • Apple mixture: Toss apples with sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Set aside.
  • Cinnamon-sugar swirl: Combine brown sugar and cinnamon in a separate bowl. Set aside.
  • Batter preparation:
    • Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
    • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Stir in vanilla.
    • In another bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder.
    • Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture, alternating with milk.
  • Layering:
    • Pour half the batter into the loaf pan.
    • Add half the apple mixture and sprinkle with half the cinnamon-sugar.
    • Repeat with the remaining batter, apples, and cinnamon-sugar.
  • Bake: Bake for 55-60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool for 10-15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Glaze: Mix powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Drizzle over cooled bread.
  • Serve: Slice and enjoy your apple fritter bread!

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for a balanced flavor.
  • Ensure the bread cools completely before glazing for the best texture.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
