Description

Soft and fluffy chocolate steamed buns, perfect as a sweet snack or dessert, filled with rich cocoa flavor.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate (optional for filling)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, sugar, yeast, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Add warm milk and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions.
  6. Flatten each piece, add chocolate chips in the center (if using), and shape into a bun.
  7. Place the buns on parchment paper squares and let them rest for 15–20 minutes.
  8. Steam the buns over boiling water for 12–15 minutes.
  9. Turn off the heat and let them sit covered for 5 minutes before removing the lid to prevent shrinking.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast without killing it.
  • You can skip the filling for plain chocolate buns.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat by steaming.
