Description

These Cherry Basil Puff Pastry Tartlets are a delightful combination of sweet cherries and aromatic basil atop flaky puff pastry – perfect for an elegant appetizer or summer dessert.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup fresh cherries, pitted and halved
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut into 6 equal rectangles or squares.
  3. Place the pastry pieces on the baking sheet and score a ½-inch border around each piece with a knife, being careful not to cut all the way through.
  4. In a bowl, mix cherries with honey or maple syrup and set aside.
  5. Brush the edges of the pastry with the egg wash (egg beaten with water).
  6. Spoon cherry mixture into the center of each pastry square, staying within the scored border.
  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until the pastry is golden and puffed.
  8. Remove from oven and drizzle with balsamic glaze.
  9. Sprinkle with chopped fresh basil and serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Use frozen cherries if fresh are not available; thaw and drain before use.
  • Goat cheese or ricotta can be added for a savory twist.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
