Description

A decadent twist on the classic Italian dessert, Cherry Amaretto Tiramisu combines layers of espresso-soaked ladyfingers with a creamy mascarpone filling, sweet cherries, and a splash of almond-flavored liqueur.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup brewed espresso or strong coffee, cooled
  • 1/4 cup Amaretto liqueur
  • 1/2 cup cherry preserves or cherry compote
  • 1 cup pitted cherries (fresh or thawed if frozen)
  • 1 package (7 oz) ladyfinger biscuits (Savoiardi)
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Cocoa powder, for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings or curls (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a shallow bowl, combine the espresso and Amaretto liqueur. Set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  3. In another bowl, beat mascarpone cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until combined.
  5. Dip each ladyfinger quickly into the espresso-Amaretto mixture and arrange a layer in the bottom of a dish or trifle bowl.
  6. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  7. Spread half of the cherry preserves and scatter half of the cherries over the top.
  8. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers, mascarpone mixture, preserves, and cherries.
  9. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.
  10. Before serving, dust with cocoa powder and top with dark chocolate shavings if desired.

Notes

  • Use fresh cherries when in season for best flavor.
  • Can substitute cherry preserves with cherry pie filling or compote.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit Amaretto and add 1/2 tsp almond extract to coffee.
  • Let it chill overnight for optimal flavor and texture.
