Description

Carne Asada is a flavorful Mexican grilled steak marinated in citrus juice, garlic, and spices, then seared to perfection. Ingredients

  • 2 pounds flank or skirt steak
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice (about 12 limes)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jalapeño, chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a bowl or zip-top bag, combine orange juice, lime juice, soy sauce, olive oil, garlic, jalapeño, cilantro, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  • Add steak and coat thoroughly with the marinade. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably 4–6 hours.
  • Preheat grill or cast-iron pan over high heat. Remove steak from marinade and pat dry.
  • Grill steak 4–5 minutes per side for medium-rare, depending on thickness.
  • Let rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.

Notes

  • Marinate overnight for deeper flavor.
  • Flank or skirt steak are traditional, but ribeye or sirloin also work well.
  • Serve in tacos, burritos, or over rice with salsa and guacamole.
