Description

Start your day with the ultimate Southern comfort food: Best EVER Biscuits and Gravy! This dish features buttery, flaky buttermilk biscuits topped with rich, creamy sausage gravy seasoned with thyme, rosemary, and a hint of spice. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or whenever you crave a hearty, satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Biscuits:

  • 8 flaky buttermilk biscuits (store-bought or homemade)

For the Sausage Gravy:

  • 1 pound pork sausage
  • 2 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups half and half
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/8 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/8 teaspoon dried crushed rosemary
  • 1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the Sausage:
    • Heat a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the pork sausage and cook until browned and fully cooked, breaking it up into crumbles as it cooks.
    • Use a paper towel to blot out most of the grease, leaving about 1–2 tablespoons in the pan.
  2. Prepare the Gravy:
    • Add the flour and butter to the cooked sausage and stir until the flour is fully absorbed.
    • Gradually whisk in the half and half, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
  3. Season the Gravy:
    • Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook the mixture, stirring often, until thickened (about 5–7 minutes).
    • Stir in thyme, rosemary, crushed red pepper flakes, and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  4. Serve:
    • Split the warm buttermilk biscuits in half and generously spoon the sausage gravy over the top. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Make-Ahead Tip: The sausage gravy can be made a day in advance and reheated on the stovetop. Add a splash of milk or half and half if it thickens too much.
  • Spice Adjustment: Increase or reduce the red pepper flakes based on your spice preference.
  • Biscuits: Homemade biscuits bring this dish to the next level. Consider making your own for a truly indulgent meal.
