Description

Bang Bang Shrimp is a popular appetizer featuring crispy fried shrimp tossed in a creamy, spicy sauce. It’s known for its addictive flavor and crunchy texture, perfect for entertaining or a bold starter.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tbsp Sriracha sauce (adjust to taste)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Chopped green onions, for garnish (optional)
  • Shredded lettuce, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, marinate the shrimp in buttermilk for 15-20 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, mix the cornstarch, flour, salt, and pepper.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, and Sriracha to make the Bang Bang sauce. Set aside.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Remove shrimp from buttermilk and dredge in the flour mixture until fully coated.
  6. Fry shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes or until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Toss the fried shrimp in the prepared Bang Bang sauce until evenly coated.
  8. Serve immediately over shredded lettuce and garnish with green onions, if desired.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of Sriracha depending on your spice preference.
  • Serve as an appetizer, in tacos, or over rice for a main dish.
  • For a healthier version, bake or air fry the shrimp.
