These Bacon Jalapeño Popper Cheese Balls are creamy, cheesy, and packed with smoky bacon and spicy jalapeños. Perfect as an appetizer or party snack, they’re a crowd-pleaser whether baked or fried!

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Cheese Ball Mixture:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 23 jalapeños, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For Coating:

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
  • 12 eggs, beaten (optional, for a thicker coating)

For Frying (Optional):

  • Oil for frying

For Serving:

  • Favorite dipping sauces (e.g., ranch, spicy mayo, or sweet chili sauce)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Cheese Mixture:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, shredded cheddar, crumbled bacon, chopped jalapeños, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  • Shape the Cheese Balls:
    • Scoop out a tablespoon of the mixture and roll it into a ball using your hands. Place the balls on a baking sheet. Repeat until all the mixture is used (makes about 12–15 balls).
  • Chill the Cheese Balls:
    • Refrigerate the cheese balls for at least 30 minutes to allow them to firm up.
  • Coat the Cheese Balls:
    • Roll each ball in breadcrumbs until fully coated. For a thicker coating, dip the balls in beaten egg first before rolling them in breadcrumbs.
  • Cook the Cheese Balls:
    • To Fry: Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry the cheese balls in batches for 3–4 minutes, or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
    • To Bake: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the cheese balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
  • Serve:
    • Serve the cheese balls warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Spice Level: Adjust the number of jalapeños or use a milder pepper if you prefer a less spicy dish.
  • Cheese Variation: Add shredded pepper jack or mozzarella for extra cheesiness.
  • Make-Ahead Tip: Prepare the cheese balls ahead and freeze them uncoated. Fry or bake them straight from the freezer, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
